Naseby Resevoir: Will it perform in Winter?
Naseby reservoir has been kind to me in the past, only had a couple of visits but on both occasions myself and Ace have completely tore a whole in it, but both visits were in the height of summer so the question is will it perform in Winter?
Naseby Ressie: The tactics
So, sunday morning isn’t that far away, myself and Reece are lubed up and ready to go but i’m slightly curious about the water levels and how it fishes at this time of year. The water levels vary drastically year round and after only fishing it while it was swelling up in summer I am slightly going in blind but I know what works, I know were the fish hold up and I know exactly what tactics to start with.
In summer, shod fished singles simply haul all day and all night along as you can cast past the 120 yard barrier to the far bank so that will eb the first port of call, bang a chod as close as possible to the no fishing zone on the far bank of the left arm as you pull up.
If that fails, solid bags are sure to do the trick off the damn wall.
Bait choice and travelling light
You simply do not need a lot of gear to tackle Naseby reservoir, a couple of rods, a few tubs of pop ups and a landing net! Simples, I will be taking slightly more just in case a change of tactics is needed but I don’t intend turning on the bite alarms, who needs ‘em when your being active on a day session, the screaming clutch will soon get your attention,.
Bait choice is going to start with a single pot of NS1′s from CCmoore, the old faith-full. Ace actually went through a whole pot in one day session at Naseby, losing one for every fish. The secondary set up will be left in the car just in case its needed, but a small bag of crushed live system boilies, pellets and some milkimin pellets which are all again from CCmoore will be the way, for hook bait will be a single live system hook bait glugged, tipped with half an NS1 to balance it out. Nice and simple wins the day at Naseby Reservoir.
Anyway, I will report back on Monday with the stories of the day, hopefully with a few pictures of some fish! Just a quick shout out to Bait Tech, we will be doing a full product range review over the next 12 months and can’t wait to get stuck in, its even encouraged me to dust off the old John Wilson Avon Quiver and give that an airing on the feeder! Good times.
