He are some extracts from the book for some motivation:
“For me the margins isn’t an underarm flick or a couple of rod lengths out, its under the rod tip or a rig walked up the bank and fished within inches of it. If you can’t see what’s going on in a margin peg your removing one of the main reasons to fish there in the first place.”
“To catch carp you need to be equipped with all the skills to do so, I was shocked to hear that a friend of mine say ‘I’ve not really given margin fishing much of a go, I usually fish at 60-100 yards’. Wow! For one I was totally shocked because this guys has been fishing for years and is of a good standard, secondly It made me think: ‘how many others out there are the same, turning up to a venue and automatically discounting the margins?’ In this book, I will attempt to persuade you to give it a go, don’t discount the margins, I have caught carp over 40lb within feet of the bank, the biggest was on a float! Imagine fishing in 2 feet of clear water on the float for carp you can see clearly, its far more exciting than surface fishing which some claim is the most breath taking way of catching carp.”
“Regular munchers, when margin fishing on a venue that doesn’t have a huge stock you will find that you get what I call ‘regular munchers’, these carp will find you baited patch, take a mouthful and swim away, return every couple of minutes to do the same. This is very common, especially when competition levels are down and you have two choice, either sit it out and wait for your turn or reposition your rig to be the first patch of bait the carp sees or go hi vis, but be sure to do any changes within the 2-3 minute patrol times you have.”
“The particle party – We all know particles catch carp, its something about the texture that keeps fish interested all day long. I want to focus on tiger nuts though, as there are not many particles that you can effectively use as hook baits tiger nuts are the perfect companion to a particle blend that carp love, small quantities of tiger nuts within a mix is devastating, add to that some extra attractant oil and some crushed down offerings and you have yourself a deadly mix for the margins. A whole tiger nut as hook bait is perfect, small hair rig, maybe even tipped with a small piece of foam and you’re onto a winner. This works best in a competitive environment but not a highly commercial place; you need to be targeting a better stamp of fish for this to be effective.”
