Carp fishing at your local spot is all well and good but dare we say it, it can get a bit boring. It may well be the place where you have made your mark and got some of your best catches, but sometimes it can get a bit like the local, you know like the fact you know all the ins and outs, eating the same old dry roasted, staring at the same old faces, the same four walls….ok unless you are fishing in a swimming pool there won’t be walls but you get the picture, sometimes it is good to spread your wings, go down town or in this case, get out of the country and get yourself on a carp fishing holiday!
Fishing Holidays in France & Canada
France and Canada are our locations of choice, in our opinion you can’t beat a bit of fishing in France or a Canada fishing holiday. If you are carp fishing Canada or fishing in France you won’t have one of those moments where you think, wait have caught this fine specimen of carp before…ah yes I have its Lewis the fastest swimmer in the lake…no instead you will be catching a whole new kettle of fish, Monsieur Carp and his mates, Canuck Carp and his chums, they are all waiting to be caught.
French Carp Holidays
So where to go you may ask? Well lets start with Le république française or the French republic for those of you who only experience culture when you leave an out of date Yakult lurking at the back of the fridge. Have no fear if you are a bit dangerous with your dairy, a carp fishing holiday to France will give you a massive dose of culture and thats not because the French carp favour a bit of Camembert and coffee as bait.
No its because one of our favourite French carp lakes is Lake Genesis and its not cultural because it is named after that Phil Collins fronted band, who ironically had a song we think was a reference to our old site –Carpit Crawlers! It is cultural because it lies just 15 minutes away from the town of Carrouges with its chateau from the 14th century, which was formerly owned by a French knight, Sir Jean de Carrouges, until the English went and smashed it down…please don’t get any ideas, they have had to rebuild once already because of English louts, you are here to fish not smash up French buildings.
Lake Genesis Coming Through the air Tonight
Anyway Lake Genesis makes a nice carp fishing holiday. The lake had about 2 ton of carp put in it in February 2008, load of common carp, mirror carp, even a few Koi carp and grass carp for those who are into that kind of thing. The suspects weigh in at 13 lbs all the way up to 35 lbs, so some nice sizes to be landing.
The lake has been around forever but has never been seriously fished, apparently Carrouges and his mates were too busy putting their castle back together, again leave the castle alone! Have some beers, have some food, listen to a bit of Genesis (well you have to don’t ya? It would be wrong not to! I can hear ya, “I can’t dance…”) and go fish some carp. Genesis is one our top picks for fishing in France. The lake is about four and a half hours from Calais and 2 hours from Le Harve, so not too much of a trek once you get off the ferry or out the tunnel.
What we like about Genesis is the privacy really, it really is a nice place for a carp fishing holiday to France, a 12 acre lake with an average depth of 2 metres, there are 5 double swims but there is only ever a maximum of 6 anglers fishing at one time. It has all your basics and more really, shower block with toilets and basins, nice dining area overlooking the lake and our personal favourite, security boxes with plug points for your mobile, camera or whatever.
Carp Fishing Holidays to Canada
So we done France, not literally…well actually there was a petite elfin brunette that didn’t mind our bait covered mitts but really thats another story. So on to Canada, theres a lot of carp fishing to be done in Canada, ah carp fishing Canada, sorry I was still thinking about that elfin brunette, sorry I will stop, I promised not to say what she likes about our er bait. Back to Canada and our favourite carp fishing spot, which goes by the name of Katchwanooka, we just love the name, say it out loud, K-A-T-C-H-A-W-A-N-O-O-K-A, listen to the purr of that name, its lovely. But its not just the name that is lovely, the whole resort is, definitely a good Canada fishing holiday.
Just 90 minutes away from Toronto, Katchewanooka is part of the Trent Severn Water Way system, which connects it to a few other waterways. The lake is located on 2 acres of lush green green lush grass with some beautiful mature trees and over 450 feet of shoreline with a nice sandy beach, which is ideal for swimming…not something we would recommend in the UK! Across from the lake there is about 5 acres of wild forest with some real decent scenery and natural shallow sand banks.
Clean waters and carp up to 32 lbs in weight make this a real nice fishing holiday and ideal getaway for any fisherman. As well as carp, the lake also houses walleye, bass, perch and muskie. So blame Canada! Actually don’t because Katchwanooka is an awesome fishing holiday and we are not the only ones to say, the best Canada fishing holiday there is!
Don’t Just Settle!
So don’t just settle for the local lake, get yourself on a fishing holiday, think France or if you have bit more to spend see Canada.
